SAF Games logo, mascot to be released shortly

GUWAHATI, Oct 27: Altogether Rs 24 cr will be spent to upgrade the sports infrastructure which will be used during the forthcoming SAF games in Guwahati and Shillong respectively. Already 19.5 cr has been released for the up gradation works of the infrastructure and all the venues are expected to be ready by the second week of December.

Disclosing the news to the media person Sarbanda Sonowal, the Minister of State Youth Affairs and Sports, today said that his ministry had already chalked out different plans to make the game a grand success. "Joint efforts will be required from Union and State government to make the Game success and I feel the progress of preparation is quite satisfactory till date. It is expected that all the venues would be ready within second week of December," said Sonowal. He also added that rs 60 cr are earmarked to conduct the forthcoming Games while rs 11 cr will be spent for the teams.

Altogether 10 venues will be used in Guwahati to host the 12th SAF Games while the number of venues in shillong will be four.

Meanwhile the Mascot and the logo of forthcoming SAF Games will be released within next two weeks. However the Games website-www.southasiangames2016.com was launched today in the city.

Earlier Sonowal iugurated the training workshop for workforce of the Games Secretariat at NEDFI House in the city. In a brief speech in the function Sonowal said," For the people of the North East, it is a matter of pride that Assam and Meghalaya will jointly host an intertiol event of this grandeur for the first time in the region." He also thanked Chief Minister of Assam and Meghalaya for their whole hearted support for the Games.
