SAF Games logo, mascot to be unveiled in Guwahati on Dec 13

GUWAHATI, Dec 7: The organising Committee (OC-SAG) of the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) will unveil the Games logo and mascot in a ceremony which will be held at the ITA Cultural Center, Machkhowa on December 13. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his Meghalaya counterpart Mukul Sangma and Sarbanda Sonowal, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, are expected to attend the function. The function will kickoff at 11:30 am. Artists from Guwahati based Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra will perform at the event and later the mascot of the Games will travel around the city with bikers from the Assam Bikers Group.

The OC-SAG will also kickoff its Volunteers Programe during the same function..

Commenting on the preparations of the event, N Buragohain, OC-SAG Director of Ceremonies, said, “It is the first major event of the Organising Committee. We expect a huge number of the people for the ceremony and welcome all volunteers who want to become a part of the games. The mascot and logo will help us in raising the awareness about the Games at every level.”

It may be mentioned here that Guwahati and Shillong, will co-host the Games from February 6-16, 2016. Around 2500 participants from eight countries are expected to take part in the forthcoming Games which preparations are going on full swing in the two cities.

Meanwhile a meeting of the organizing committee was held at the DC Kamrup (metro) office today. The meeting review the preparation of the forthcoming Games. Apart from Additiol Chief Secretary RT Jindal, the meeting was attended by AK Sinha Kashyap, ADGP, (Border), Mukesh Agarwal, Commissioner of Police, Ajay Tiwari, Comissioner, Sports and M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro).
