SAF Games Torch relay to kick off today

GUWAHATI, Jan 16: The Torch Relay Ceremony of the 12th South Asian Games will kick off at Major Dhyan Chand tiol Stadium in New Delhi tomorrow. Sarbanda Sonowal, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports (I/C), will start the torch relay programme by lighting the Torch in presence of several sports organizers and renowned sports persolities of the country.
As per the schedule available, Sonowal will light the torch and will hand over it to the IOA President raya Ramachandran. The IOA president than transfer the Torch to the Eminent Sports Persons and it will be followed by the Torch Relay. The relay will start from Major Dhyan Chand tiol Stadium and will culmite at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi where the Torch will be received by Rajiv Mehta, Secretary General, IOA. Later the Torch will be sent to Guwahati. Among the sports persons who are likely to attend tomorrows Torch relay function included Gopichand, Jaffar Iqbal and Sushil Kumar.
A source from the organizing committee today informed The Sentinel that as a part of the campaign programme of 12th SAF Games, the Torch will travel to all the state capitals of North East India before the start of the mega events. Guwahati and Shillong will jointly host the next edition of the SAF Games from February 5-16.
