From a  Reporter

SHILLONG, Jan 5: Independent MLA David Nongrum who is all set to contest the upcoming Assembly polls on a Congress has slammed the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) alleging that the saffron party is trying to make inroads in Meghalaya through backdoor

Addressing a gathering after distributing  SRWP schemes worth Rs 2.12  crores at Nongrah  here on Friday,   the independent MLA lambasted BJP over the atrocities  on minorities in Madhya Pradesh and other places of the country

He even asked people to be cautious  from the agendas of BJP, adding  " I will not sell my soul to the devil."

He also added that the BJP would pump in a lot of money in Meghalaya during elections even as he added that  the Congress had got 28  MLAs in Manipur while BJP had got 21  seats but the BJP along with the support of NPP and other party formed the Government.

Terming the formation of North East Democratic Alliance in which local political parties are partners as a tactic of BJP to penetrate into the region,  Nongrum said that the BJP has brought an anti conversion bill in  Jharkhand under which  people have to take permission from the Deputy Commissioners for conversion.

Nongrum also castigated the  local parties like NPP, UDP and PDF for remaining mum over the issues saying they are quiet probably because of  Rs 133 crore   special grants which was sanctioned by the Central Government for the District Councils.

While defending his decision to contest the polls on a Congress ticket, he said that the Congress party stands for everyone.

Earlier, he said that the constituency is getting two schools under ADB project besides there are also talks to construct a 100  bedded hospital in Diengpassoh
