SAG: Rs 1, 539.07 lakh was spent for Shillong leg, says Zenith

SHILLONG, March 22:  State Sports Minister, Zenith Sangma on Tuesday during the Question Hour informed the House that Rs 1, 539.07 lakh was spent for the Shillong leg of South Asian Games.

It may be mentioned that Guwahati and Shillong were the co-hosts for the 12th Edition of the South Asian Games held from February 5 to 16.

Giving a break-up of the amount, Sangma informed that for the upgradation of sports infrastructure an amount of Rs 392.07 lakh was sanctioned.

The Sports Minister also informed that an amount of Rs 250 lakh was spent on face lifting civic amenities by the Municipal Board, an amount of Rs 777 lakh was spent by the state police for purchasing security equipments and Rs 120 lakh expenditure was incurred for launching of the Shillong Leg. Sangma also informed that a total of Rs 41, 15,370 was spent on the gala dinner organised by the state government through the Arts and Culture Department.

Meanwhile, the leader of Opposition wanted to know whether the expenses incurred were on durable items, including infrastructures.

The Sports Minister in his reply said that some infrastructures were upgraded and some new infrastructures were developed.

According to Sangma, out of the amount sanctioned for the games a certain sum was used for beautification of the city like renovation of drains and paintings in different areas in the city.

“Certain amount was spent on small components throughout the city,” Sangma said.

He also informed that the state police bought new vehicles from the amount allotted.
