GUWAHATI, Jan 11: Sports Authority of India has prepared a new plan to upgrade the scerio of sports in the country. As a part of this plan special thrust will be given to develop the talented youth through academies under the guidance of star sports persons of the country.
Addressing a gathering in the semir on ‘Sports as a way of life’, at the Don Bosco Auditorium this evening Jiji Thomson, the ex Director General of Sports Authority of India said,“We have decided to give major boost in the development of sports in the country by providing the talented sports person special training facilities. At present there are only seven states in our country which promote sports in proper way. If we want to increase the number of medals from the intertiol event like Olympic than we must change the present scerio and encourage more and more states to promote sports.”
He also added,“ As per the plan few academies will soon start in the different parts of the country where athletes will train in athletics, swimming, cycling, archery and few other discipline. We have also plan to given the talented players, who will be selected in the academies through a special selection process, a chance to train under the watchful eyes of star players of the country like Mary Kom who is running an academy in Manipur.”
