SAI selection camp kicks off

Itagar, May 24: In its streak to train the local athletes and motivate them to adopt sports as their profession, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) is conducting a two-day selection camp at the Special Area Games Centre here, from Saturday on four disciplines including weightlifting, karate, boxing and taekwondo.

The first day of the selection saw applicants with high spirit giving their best to get selected as parents and guardians accompanied their wards and encouraged them during test hours which showed that the importance of sports is already prevailing in the mind and heart of Aruchalees.

More than 30 applicants turned up for boxing, 26 for karate, 23 for weight lifting and 19 for taekwondo even though the sets were limited.

Weightlifting coach Deo Dutt Sharma, who lead two Indian lifters to London Olympic 2012 along with G Pandey who has 28 years of experience as weightlifting coach are conducting the selection process for weightlifting while boxing coach Teli Kai, taekwondo coach Tara Tagin, senior instructor of karate Kakio Siga are looking after their respective fields.

“Result will surely be visible if the state provides the required facilities as the high spirit of candidates who appeared in today’s selection shows that Aruchal is marching fast ahead in terms of sports,’ said Sharma.
