SAKYCS demands right to self-rule for Kaibortta community

Dibrugarh, September 19: A representative meeting of Sadou Asom Kaibortta Yuba- Chatra Sanmilan (SAKYCS), chaired by the president of the central committee, Jayanta Das, was held at the Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan conference hall on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by more than 200 representatives of the district.  The representative  meeting was also addressed by the chief advisers of the central committee of SAKYCS,  Dimbeswar Hazarika and Kalpajyoti Das, and organizing secretary Anitya Das.

Later on, as per the decision of the central committee , an all new Dibrugarh committee consisting of 71 members was formed with Amrit Das as president , Rintu Das as executive president, Bipin Bora and Siddharth Das as joint general secretaries , Biswajit Das as fince secretary , Shubhokanto Das and Dhorjyo Das as advisers.

 Apart from the representative meeting ,an oath taking ceremony was also held wherein in the presence of the general secretary of Hindu Yuva Chattra Parishad (HYCP), Satyajit Deori ; adviser of Dibrugarh district Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union,  (DSKSU), Bishnu Sonowal; eminent folk artiste Madhav Krish Das ; social worker Sanjeev Hazarika ; social worker Chandrakanta Das and other well known dignitaries , the members of the newly-formed Dibrugarh committee were administered oath by the president of the central committee of SAKYCS, Jayanta Das.

Several proposals, including the decision of implementation of the same, were taken up for discussion at the representative meeting.  The members of the Sanmilan demanded that within this year, the people of Kaibortta community must be granted the right to self-rule.

The members even demanded that the government must ensure that land pattas must be issued to all those people who were deprived of their land pattas. The call for resettlement of all such people was also made by the Sanmilan. Fish markets, rivers, ponds and river embankments must be reserved for the people of Kaibortta community, the Sanmilan demanded.

The Sanmilan also called upon the government to take steps to tackle the flood situation in Dibrugarh town, filling of all backlog posts reserved for Scheduled Caste and release of all pending student scholarship arrears, in a press release stated the general secretary of the central committee of SAKYCS , Gaurishankar Das.

Earlier, the objectives of the representative meeting were laid down by Gaurishankar Das.
