SAKYCS seeks right of self-governce for Kaiborta community

Dibrugarh, November 28: The  foundation day of Sadou Asom Kaibortta Yuba- Chatra Sanmilan (SAKYCS) was observed here with a day-long event at Amolapatty tya Mandir, on Friday.

The events commenced with a cleanliness drive and then the central committee president of SAKYCS, Jayanta Das, hoisted the organization’s flag, while smriti tarpan ceremony was done by the general secretary, Gauri Shankar Das.

Soon after, popular folk artist Dr. Dolly Das; music composer and artist, Madhav Krish Das; radio artist Padma Das; renowned social worker, Raju Hazarika ; assistant engineer of Dibrugarh All India Radio (AIR), KK Saikia ; well known social worker, Kalpa Jyoti Das and Professor of Dibru College, Dr. Biju Moran,  paid floral tributes and lighted lamps before the portraits of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and other eminent persolities of the Kaiborrta community.  

The meeting was attended by Sadou Asom Muttock Yuba Chatra Sanmilan (SAMYCS) president, Uday Shankar Mohan;  the general secretary of  Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad(AJYP), Udayan Kumar Gogoi; general secretary of Sadou Asom Muttock Yuba Chatra Parishad (SAMYCP) Jugal Borua; general secretary of  District Axomiya Yuba Mancha (DDAYM) , Ramen Borua;  president in-charge of District Muttock Yuba Chatra Sanstha (DMYCS), Madhuryya Hazarika;Dibrugarh gar Samiti Worker of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Mash Saikia along  with several other distinguished persons.

Meanwhile, a discussion based on the socio- economic, political, history, and education and linguistic-cum -cultural issues of the Kaibortta community was also held on the occasion. The discussion was attended by Professor of Demow College, Dr. Prafulla Hazarika and Professor of Dibru College, Dr. Biju Moran, as chief reviewers.

Several proposals pertaining to the community’s overall development were submitted in the open meeting, which included that before Assembly elections, the community should be granted the right of self-governce , re- settlement of the people of  the community who lost their homes due to erosion and providing land pattas to landless inhabitants of the community, construction of cultural auditorium in the me of  Sati Radhika, reservation of 10 seats in Assam  Legislative Assembly  and one seat in the Lok Sabha for the community, the right of self governce by way of establishment of autonomous council , to be granted before next year’s Assembly elections granting of Autonomous Council for the community before Assembly elections and preservation of  ancient heritage buildings and tombs of Kaiborrta community  symbols of accomplishment .

Later, Dibeswar Hazarika and Kalpa Jyoti Das were elected  as  central committee advisers,  Madhav Das as cultural secretary and Pabitra Hazarika as assistant general secretary,  as stated by the president and general secretary of  SAKYCS.  Earlier, the general secretary Gauri Shankar Das laid down the objectives of the open meeting which was chaired by president Jayanta Das.
