KOKRAJHAR, July 17: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Salakati Block formed the Minority Cell on Monday at Dholmara community hall under Silkatari VCDC in Kokrajhar with an aim to work for the development of the community.

The meeting was presided over by Bijay Basumatary, president of Salakati Block, BPF. Through the public meeting, the Minority Cell of Salakati Block BPF was formed with 41 members and Hasmat Ali as president. Other members are Ayl Hogue, vice-president, and Harsad Ali, general secretary of the cell.

Allauddin Ali, president of BPF Minority Cell central committee, said in his speech that Hagrama Mohilary, the chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), who is also the president of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), was working for development of all people of the region. He said the religious minority community needed to extend support to him for better development for all communities living in BTC region.

The minority and other communities of Salakati area admitted that they had made a mistake by supporting the candidate who won under O-Boro banner, Arpa Das. Former BTC EM Derhasat Basumatary lost to Das during the last BTC election and since then all development works came to a standstill in Salakati area as Arpa Das has allegedly failed to do much work.

The president of BPF’s Minority Cell central committee, Allauddin Ali, general secretary Sultan Ahom and Husara Begum, one of the secretaries of BPF women wing, and former EM of BTC, Derhasat Basumatary, who is also president of Kokrajhar district BPF, attended the meeting as guests.
