Sale of liquor increases in Jorhat during festive season

 From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Sept 30: Heavy downpour on vami and Dashami dampened the festivity but liquor shops and bars did brisk business in Jorhat, said a police official here on the condition of anonymity.
The official said that Jorhat has 32 bars and 204 liquor shops along with 46 Assam desi mahals, excluding unlicensed shops and bars, which did good business during Durga Puja. In fact, the sale of IMFL has set a record during this festival.
This year during Durga Puja, the consumption of alcohol among teegers from mid-noon till late night was high and they usually partied in the outskirt bars and resorts which made good money.
According to a proprietor of a liquor shop, the sale of liquor increased by 50 per cent compared to last year. “This Durga Puja we did unexpected business, sale has crossed our expectation and now we have to get ready for ensuing Kati Bihu as well as Diwali,” he said.
