SAMYCS demands ST status for Mottock community before Assembly polls

Dibrugarh, February 25: Dibrugarh District Committee of Sadou Asom Mottock Yuba Chatra Sanmilan (SAMYCS) has cautioned Dr Dayanda Buragohain, spokesperson of Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP), to restrain from politicizing the scheduling issue of six ethnic communities of the State.

In a press communiqué, Prasanta Chetia and Nirupam Duwara, president and general secretary of District Committee of SAMYCS respectively, stated that as Dr Borgohain was not the guardian of Mottock, Moran, Tai-Ahom, Chutiya, Koch Rajbongshi and tea tribe communities, he should not pass any derogatory comment on these six communities.

They further called upon all the political parties of the State to allot candidature to a person of the Mottock community.  SAMYCS even called upon the tiol Congress Party not to project Raju Sahu as their party candidate for the upcoming assembly elections as he is alleged to have been involved in the murder of Chabua MLA and labour union leader, Gangaram  Kol. Over non-acceptance of their demands, the organization would be forced to replicate their agitation movement as staged by them during the last assembly elections.

SAMYCS has even called upon the BJP-led NDA government for incorporating the Mottock community’s me in the scheduling list of the six indigenous communities before the assembly elections.

The District Committee of SAMYCS, in case their demands are not met, will be forced to announce a line of vigorous agitations to be implemented from March 1, as stated by president and general secretary Prashanta Chetia and Nirupam Duara respectively.
