Sanction letters distributed to tea garden labourers

Kokrajhar, Jan 8: With an aim to providing benefits of demonetization to the tea garden labourers and to bring them closer to the banking sector, the Kokrajhar district administration distributed sanction letters among them under Assam Chah Bagichar Dhan Puraskar Mela Scheme in a ceremonial distribution programme held on Monday at Magurmari. In the programme, out of 1,916 tea garden labourers of Kokrajhar Tea Garden, 20 labourers were ceremonially handed over sanction letters.
In his speech, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Niranjan Baruah informed that under this scheme, the workers of the tea garden community would receive Rs. 2,500 as first instalment and if they maintained their accounts properly, they would  get Rs. 2,500 more in the second phase after six months. This scheme will benefit 6,643 labourers in Kokrajhar district, he added. Attending as chief guest of the programme, BTC Executive Member Rajib Brahma spoke about the importance of opening of bank accounts and its continuity. The bank officials of SBI and others also explained about various government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yoja and Pradhan Mantri Suraksa Yoja Atul Pension Yoja which are being implemented by them.
