Sangai beauty pageant to promote 'Make in Manipur'

NEW DELHI, Nov 7:Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Commissioner of Commerce and Industries of Government of Manipur today met  North East students communities at the conference hall of Manipur Bhawan at Sardar Patel Marg here to discuss about the employment generation potential in Textiles sector of handloom, handicrafts and sericulture, promotion of local products and fabrics by organizing beauty pageant, and participation of the youths in taking up entrepreneurial activities on Make in India-Make in North East-Make in Manipur for employment generation, a press release stated.

He stated that Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Manipur under the aegis of the Exhibition Committee of Sangai Festival had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Miss India Organizer on October 31 this year  to organize Sangai Princess on November 17, 2015 on Manipur Day of India Intertiol  Trade Fair, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi as a precursor of Sangai Queen and Campus Princess for Miss India North East in Imphal on November 27 and 28, 2015 during Sangai Festival. He said, “The contestants for Sangai Princess shall be residents of tiol Capital Region having domiciles of North Eastern States .There is no height restrictions. Non-college, married, widowed, single, unmarried and everyone whose age is less than 25 years can participate in the beauty pageant. Top filists will get direct entry into Sangai Queen in Imphal.”

Commerce and Industries Commissioner Dewangan also expressed that Manipur was having one of the highest density of handloom, handicrafts and Sericulture weavers in the country and Manipur government stepped into the promotion of local products and local fabric by showcasing its potential in product diversification as well as developing marketing linkages using e-commerce platform. He also proposed to organize a 10-day entrepreneurship workshop in New Delhi for the fil year students of Manipur who were pursuing Bachelor and Master degree in tiol Capital Region in the month of December this year to make them aware of employment generation potential in Textiles Sector, the release said.
