Sangeeta makes Odisha's job easy

GUWAHATI, March 20: Bengal and Odisha won their respective matches in the Women’s U-23 T20 League and knock out Cricket Championship held at the Barsapara ground here today. In the first match of the day Bengal defeated Jharkhand by four wickets while Odisha beat Tripura by five wickets in the second.

The highlight of the tie between Odisha and Tripura were four wickets in four consecutive balls by Odisha’s bowler Sangeeta Khadia. The incident was happened during the fil over of Tripura’s innings. Sangeeta, who bowled only two overs in the match, picked up four wickets in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th balls of her fil over and finished her spell with 4-7. Tripura, invited to bat, scored 90-9 in their 20 overs. In reply Odisha reached the target in 18.5 overs losing five wickets. Sasmita Mahlik (34) and Reemalaxmi Ekka (25no) contributed good score on the board.

Earlier in the first game of the day Jharkhand, invited to bat, scored 91-7 in their 20 overs. Bengal reached home in 18.1 overs losing six wickets.

Brief score: 1st match-Jharkhand 91-7 (20 overs): Ruma Kumari Mahato  35; Bengal 92-6 (18.5 overs), Richa 34, Prativa  30 (no), Mamta Paswan 3-14. 2nd match- Tripura 90-9 (20 overs): N Debth 23, J Debth 23, Sangeeta Khadia 4-7; Odisha 91-5 (18.4 overs): Sasmita Mahalik 34, Reemalaxmi Ekka 25 no.
