Sangma lays foundation stone of residential school

TURA, Sept 5: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma laid the foundation stone for construction of a residential school and also iugurated the newly constructed Multi Facility Centre (MFC) at Kapasipara under Gasuapara C&RD block in South Garo Hills on Friday evening.

Dr Sangma informed the gathering that the Government has started a new programme for opening residential schools in the backward and rural areas and that nine such schools have been sanctioned in the first phase.

Dwelling on the ground realities in the rural areas, the Chief Minister said that residential schools were essential to eble the children in backward areas to catch up with the rest of the world. He congratulated the people of the area for giving land for this project, adding that there was a need to acquire additiol land as it would grow as grooming centre for future generations to nurture all talents.

He also laid stress on the role and responsibilities of the teachers and school maging committees in the improvement of education and made an exhortation to revive the spirit of sacrifice and social service that had been the quality of teachers in yesteryears. In the past few years the Government has laid stress on improvement of education sector and accorded highest investment in the sector, which is still not sufficient, he added.

The Chief Minister also informed the gathering that two MFCs have been sanctioned for Gasuapara block and said that these assets should be put to multiple uses including social occasions and community training programmes. He said that the MFCs can also be used as coaching centres for students appearing board and various competitive exams under Chief Minister’s Career Guidance & Counselling Programme
