Sangma to pitch Ryndong against Prestone in Pynursla

SHILLONG, Dec 26:  Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is likely to pitch Dr Jelington Ryndong against his bête noire Prestone Tynsong in the Assembly elections scheduled early 2018.

According to sources, Dr Ryndong, a child specialist at the Ganesh Das Hospital here, is in all probability getting the Congress ticket for contesting from Pynursla Constituency.

It may be mentioned that in August this year Sangma dropped Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar from his Cabinet for their alleged anti-party activities.

The duo, along with veteran Congress legislator and former Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh and Ngaitlang Dhar, will be joining the tiol People’s Party (NPP) on January 4 in Shillong after they fell out with Sangma, who had recently stated that the Congress would ensure that those who had deserted the Party were defeated in the 2018 Assembly election.

The Chief Minister had then stated that the Congress had already zeroed in on altertive candidates who were strong to contest against these “turncoats”.

According to sources, the me of Ryndong, who is a resident of Nongthymmai village of Pynursla constituency, has been forwarded to the Election Committee of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee after his me got the nod of the Pynursla Block Congress Committee and East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee.   

The list of Congress candidates for the 2018 Assembly polls will most likely be released in two phases.

In all probability, the first list of candidates will be announced before the New Year.
