Sangma urges Central ministers to visit NE frequently

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, Nov 20: Tura Lok Sabha MP Conrad K Sangma has urged Central Ministers to visit the northeast frequently.

Sangma’s appeal comes in the wake of, Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma recent statement lashing out at the Union ministers visiting the North East frequently and “spending public money”.

According to Conrad, it is only if they (Central Government Ministers) see with their own eyes that they will realize what difficulties then north east faces.

“…and how different the region is and what kind of different policies we need to make. So it is absolutely necessary and I urge them that they should come even more and I think this is one of the important things that has happened and I sincerely support it,” the Tura MP said.

“These are not tangible things. As I said these (visits) are firsthand look at the suffering of the people,” he said.

Conrad said that the physical presence of ministers or higher ups coming in from Delhi and asking the state government officials about the implementation of the work does create a different kind of pressure.

The Tura MP also said that the Chief Minister should check how many times he himself had gone to Delhi and how many times he keeps going to Delhi every weekend.
