Sania-Marti lose Toronto semis

Toronto, Aug 16: The Indo-Swiss tennis combine of Sania Mirza and Marti Hingis suffered a straight games loss and were ousted from the women’s doubles semifils of the Cadian Open here.

French-Slovenian fourth seeds Caroline Garcia and Katari Srebotnik upset the top seeds 6-3, 6-2 in exactly an hour to take a 2-1 lead in career meetings over the reigning Wimbledon champions on Saturday.

Playing on the outdoor hard courts of the Aviva Centre, Sania and Marti were completely outplayed.

The Indo-Swiss combine did not start well as they served two double faults in the first set. Though they won a breakpoint, Sania and Marti missed out on three more chances which could have put the set in their favour.

On the contrary, Caroline and Katari converted both the breakpoint opportunities they got to clinch the first set and take the lead in the match.

Two more double faults in the second set really put the top seeds into the back seat. They again won a breakpoint but the fourth seeds clinched two more to easily pocket the set and enter the fils of the $2,678,055 tourment.

Overall, the French-Slovenian combine won 54 of the 95 points played in the match. IANS
