Sanitation awareness programme at Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Feb 17: A weeklong sanitation awareness programme was concluded here recently which was organized in collaboration with the department of education, health, social welfare, Panchayat and Rural Development, Zilla Parishad, UNICEF, Dibrugarh University (DU) Swachch Bharat Unit, Assam Branch of Indian Tea Association (ABITA) and several other government and private sector organisations. The weeklong sanitation programme aimed at educating the general public on the basic need of sanitation and pure drinking water.

 In collaboration with Sanitation Awareness Mission and tiol Worm Eradication Day, the department of Health, Education and Public Health and Engineering (PHE) under a joint initiative had demonstrated before the students of various schools, the basic art of washing hands which is considered to help in controlling the source and spreading of worm. During the awareness programme, for better health of students, stress was given on putting wall paintings with all the necessary data in all the schools of the district.  An awareness meeting for the rural people was also organised in all the pachayats by Panchayat and Gram Unyan department and Zilla Parishad under the Sanitation Awareness Mission.

As a part of the weeklong programme, the local MLA Prashanta Phukan took part in a public safai abhijan, which was organised in the premises of AMCH, on February 12.  In a similar way, a collective safai abhijan was taken up by the people of mfake village as part of the Sanitation Awareness Mission.  It may be added that mfake village, has been recently recognized as Swachch Village in Dibrugarh district besides recognizing as an Open Defecation Free (ODF) village.
