Saptami celebrated with pomp and gaiety in Dhubri

 From a Correspondent

DHUBRI, Sept 27: Defying all odds, filly the fervour and spirit of Durga Puja was ushered in as thousands of puja revelers thronged community puja pandals across Dhubri district on the day of Saptami on Wednesday. Incessant rain, water logging, dilapidated roads and by-lanes, sky rocketing prices of commodities appear to be the thing of past to the people and these are not bothering them or coming on the way of celebrating Durga Puja - the biggest festival of eastern India. Durga Puja in Dhubri, however, has special and distinct place in lower Assam not only for having the highest number of community puja but also for some historical and century-old Puja since the British era.
Durga Puja in Mahamaya Dham, Gauripur Rajbari Mahamaya Puja, Dhubri Hari Sabha and Dutta Bari Puja are some of the family and community puja that have been celebrated over a century now. Moreover, most of the community Pujas of Dhubri town have already celebrated golden jubilee and Dhubri Kalibaribari is celebrating its 90 years  while Ghosepara Sarbajanin Durga Puja in ward no. 14 is celebrating golden jubilee this year, said Debasish Goswami, a resident  of ward no. 6 in Dhubri town.
Though spirit and fervour of the festivity is at its best among the people, yet due to demonetization and GST, grandeur and lavishly-decorated pandals are hardly to be seen this year in Dhubri. This year, altogether 384 community puja will be organized across Dhubri district. Out of 384, there are 301 community puja alone in Dhubri subdivision while 83 in Bilasipara subdivision of the district. However, 104 community puja will be organized in Dhubri town under Dhubri Police Station area this time.
