JOYSAGAR: Local body members and leaders of many social organizations of Sivasagar district held a pre-Assam bandh discussion in the Station Chariali area of the town on Monday and discussed recent political developments, including the proposed 12-hour Assam bandh called by a joint forum of 46 local organizations.

The Sivasagar district president of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, G. Neog sharply criticized the ruling BJP government in Dispur and said that the Sonowal government did not understand the language of democracy and was fascist. The meeting decided to support the Assam bandh and thereby send a clear message against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016. The organizations also criticized the role of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) regarding the bill.
