Sarbanda attends 10th Biennial Session of Barekuri Anchalik Yuba Sangha

Digboi, Sept 6: Underlining the rich cultural and sporting abilities of the youth of Barekuri area in Tinsukia district, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Wednesday announced Rs 50 lakhs each for setting up a cultural complex and augmenting sports infrastructure in the area.

The Chief Minister announced this while taking part as the chief guest in the 10th Biennial Session of Barekuri Anchalik Yuba Sangha at Barekuri ME School. The Chief Minister also announced that a skill development centre would be set up at Barekuri in a bid to provide better opportunities for generating employment avenues for the youth of the area.       

Detailing his close association with the people of Barekuri, the Chief Minister said that blessings of people of the area have been a constant source of inspiration and guidance in his life and he sought their blessings and support in future as well for executing his responsibilities as the Chief Minister of the state to the best of his abilities.

Highlighting Prime Minister rendra Modi’s vision for empowering the youth, Sonowal said that if India is to progress and become one of the top countries in the world, then it can only happen through skilling the youth. He further said that Government of Assam will set up skill development centres at different parts of the State for facilitating an environment of economic growth and he commented that skill development centre to be set up at Barekuri is part of this whole process of imparting competent skills to the youth of the state.      

Saying that Barekuri people are very resilient and they have successfully overcome many tural calamities, Sonowal stated that current wave of flood has also caused lots of damages and devastations in the area and the State Government is taking up the repairing work of flood ravaged infrastructure on a priority basis.        “Our strength lies in unity and harmony and we should always be guided by the ideals of Siu-Ka-Pha, Chilarai, Raghab Moran, Sarbanda Singha and other such stalwarts who played an important role in shaping the identity of greater Assamese society” Sonowal said while he also appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony remembering the contributions of great socio-religious reformers and spiritual gurus such as Sankardev, Madhabdev, Damodardev and Aniruddhadev who cemented the  social fabric among the people of the state cutting across divisions of religion, caste and creed. 

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also released a souvenir med “Holongaguri” and Barekuri Anchalik Yuba Sangha and other local organisation submitted memorandums of their demands to the Chief Minister.   Members of Parliament Rameswar Teli and Pradan Barua, MLAs Suren Phukan, Bolin Chetia, Sanjay Kishan, President of All Assam Moran Students’ Union Arunjyoti Moran were also present in the meeting that was presided over by Jitendrajit Gohain.
