Sarma seeks support from tea garden magement

GUWAHATI, Dec 9: A consultative meeting on ‘Healthcare Service Delivery and outcomes in Tea Garden areas’ was held today at Assam Administrative Staff College here.  

Dr P Ashok Babu, Mission Director, NHM, Assam welcomed the participants and explain the objectives of the meeting.

Samir Sinha, Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, gave a presentation highlighting the various issues and concerns related to healthcare service delivery and outcomes in tea garden areas.

Three major strategies related to extension of health coverage through Mobile Medical Units (MMU), strengthening of existing healthcare service system and coverage of additiol tea gardens under PPP mode.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his speech laid stress on the issues of lack of awareness among tea garden population, poor response and cooperation from tea garden Magement and idequate infrastructure facility in Tea Garden areas.

He called upon the Tea Garden Magement for their support and cooperation in the government endeavor to extend proper health care facilities in the tea garden areas and directed the Deputy Commissioners to survey each and every tea garden and prepare a specific action plan for every garden involving the elected representatives during the process.

Sarma appealed to all concerned officials and elected representatives for preparation of a holistic development plan including behavior change covering the areas under Education, Nutrition, Water & Sanitation as well as cultural  and sports activities. The Chief Secretary in his address directed all the Departments to work in a mission mode for reducing MMR and IMR in tea garden areas.
