'Sati Joymoti should be given due recognition'

SIVASAGAR, April 8: A day-long programme with various colourful events in memory of Ahom Romoni Joymoti Konwari was celebrated at ONGC Colony Open Pandal in Sivasagar under the aegis of ONGC Worker’s Mohila Samiti recently.

Attending the open meeting as chief guest, noted novelist Mitali Phukon, in her address, spoke on the supreme sacrifice of Sati Joymoti. Phukon said, “Sati Joymoti is still confined around a single community. Sati Joymoti should be given due recognition the same way as Queen of Laxmibai is recognized.”

Among others ATASU chief advisor Aswini Chetia and NEST Foundation chairman PR Mili also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, Tulika Chetia Yein, general secretary of ONGC Worker’s Mohila Samiti explained the objectives of the meeting.

An episode of the tumultuous life of Joymoti was also ected through a play on the occasion with a view to create realization amongst the new generation women of her great character who embraced death by tolerating all inhuman torture for the sake of her husband.
