Sati Sadhani Award conferred on Birubala Rabha in Golaghat

Golaghat/Dhekial, April 21: Chief Minister of Assam Sarbanda Sonowal conferred  this year’s Sati Sadhani Memorial  Award to renowned social activist Birubala Rabha who has been fighting against witch hunt in the state. Ministers Atul Bora and ba Kumar Doley, MP KP Tasa, MLAs Bhaben Bharali and Bimal Bora, Chairman of Minority Development Board Mominul Awal, Ex MLA Sarat Saikia , Retired ADGP Dilip Bora,  Director of Cultural Affairs DP Mishra along with several other distinguished persons were present in the  programme. In the programme CM Sonowal and Sati Sadhani Award recipient Birubala Rabha were given warm felicitation. In his speech, Sarbanda Sonowal commemorated Sati Sadhani, the great warrior of the Chutiya community, for her courage and sacrifice. He also praised Birubala Rabha for her continuous effort to fight against witch hunt which is a social evil to the society. Further the CM announced that the state government will make a project on Sati Sadhani and for that he appealed the Chutiya community organisations and the people to determine a proper place to set up the project.

 The Chutiya community in Assam has played a key role in the formation of the greater Assamese society . It is one of the indigenous communities in the state. The Chutiya community is known for its courage and sacrifice. The community each year observes Sati Sadhani Smriti Diwas in fond memory of a great woman warrior of the community, Sati Sadhani. This year Sati Sadhani Smriti Diwas was  observed in Golaghat under the aegis of All Assam Chutiya Community Sanmilan in association with Directorate of Cultural Affairs Government of Assam and Golaghat District administration. A day long programme was held on the occasion at Samany Pathar in Golaghat.
