Satya Pal Malik Appointed the New Governor of Jammu and Kashmir

As declared by the President on Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir get Bihar governor Satya Pal Malik as its new Governor. With the new appointment, Malik replaces the outgoing governor N.N. Vohra, who was in the position since 2008.

After Malik’s departure from Bihar, senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon is appointed as the Bihar governor. Other changes made in the Governor positions of other states are - Satyadev Narayan Arya becomes the new Governor of Haryana, Baby Rani Maurya in Uttarakhand, Kaptan Singh Solanki in Tripura, Tathagata Roy in Meghalaya and Ganga Prasad in Sikkim.

. She replaces K.K. Paul who was appointed by the UPA government. The only UPA era appointee currently is E.S.L. Narsimhan, who holds dual charge as Governor of Telengana and Andhra Pradesh.

Satya Pal Malik, previously was a student leader in Meerut and back in 1974, he joined Charan Singh’s Lok Dal. Later, he got elected as an MLA to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and got twice elections to Rajya Sabha- first, as a Lok Dal candidate in 1980 and from the Congress in 1986.

But due to him attending the meetings of the rebel Congress leader V.P. Singh’s Jan Morcha, he got disqualified from Rajya Sabha. This was followed by him being the Union Minister of State, Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism in Mr. Singh’s cabinet in 1990 in Mr. Singh’s cabinet.

Later, in the year 2004, Malik came to join the BJP and stood in an election against Ajit Singh from Baghpat, who happens to be the son of his past mentor Charan Singh. However, Malik lost the elections.
