'Saubhagya' scheme launched in State

Shillong, April 20:  Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma along with Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New & Renewable Energy RK Singh launched the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) at U Soso Tham Auditorium in the city today.

Addressing the function, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that ‘Saubhagya’ is a wonderful scheme launched by the Centre while also stating that the Government of Meghalaya would make efforts to ensure that the goal of providing electricity to the unconnected villages in the State is met within the target date set by the Government of India. The Chief Minister  also spoke of the need to explore alternative means of power generation that also included solar and wind energy to boost power generation in the State.

The Chief Minister on the occasion called for a concerted effort of all stakeholders including the government, the officials and the public towards saving energy even as he stated that the ‘Saubhagya’ scheme will help change the economic condition in different parts of the country.

On his part Union Minister of State RK Singh said that the ‘Saubhagya’ scheme is a revolutionary scheme while also stating that the Central Government is committed towards ensuring power connectivity to the unconnected villages across the country.

The Chief Minister along with the Union Minister of State distributed sanction orders for free household electricity connections under the ‘Saubhagya’ scheme to 30 selected beneficiaries on the occasion.
