SHILLONG, March 4: The Leader of Opposition in the KHADC, Process T Sawkmie today countered the ‘defection disease’ slur on him by KHM president,

Pyndap Saibon.

According to Sawkmie, he quit the KHM because there was lack of leadership qualities in the party and the accusation against him was “Pyndap’s Propaganda Politics”.

On Tuesday, Saibon had accused Sawkmie of defecting from one party to another in his political career.

Sawkmie was in the UDP and shifted to the MDP and later to Congress, KHM and now the Congress-led People’s Democratic Forum (PDF).

He also said that the allegation against him that he wanted to topple the Executive Committee (EC) so that Uranium mining can be facilitated was not true.

“My message today is clear during my tenure there will be no uranium mining,” Sawkmie said.

Sawkmie reacted by saying that he is completely uware of the Rs 324 uranium project of the Centre.

Sawkmie alleged that Saibon is afraid of the present political development as he might lose a check gate at 14th Mile, Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi which has being contracted to him.

On the matter of taking a pledge before the monuments of freedom fighters - U Tirot Sing Syiem and U Kiang ngbah not to defect to any party before the MDC elections in 2014, Sawkmie said that he had to respect the decision of the party.

“This (pledge taking) was the decision of the party and not my individual decision,” Sawkmie said. Meanwhile, on the all-parties EC, the PDF has reiterated that if there is one it would be led by it.
