SIVASAGAR, Oct 23: Along with rest of the State, work in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar has come to a halt for three days starting from Monday due to the strike called by the Sadou Asom Zila Prashashan Karmachari Santha (SAZPKS). The association has called the three-day strike to demand salary and perks on par with Secretariat employees. Nekib Ullah, president, SAZPKS, Sivasagar Zila Samity said, “On September 24, we set October 16, as the deadline for the State Government to meet our demands but the government has not responded. We raised our demands after an executive meeting of the association held at the conference hall in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, gaon on September 24. We announced that if the government does not take any action within October 16, we will stage a three-day strike. Since nobody responded, we are carrying out the strike.”

He said the employees were yet to receive honorarium for their work in the earlier Assembly and panchayat elections. The Santha strongly opposed the State Government’s decision on intra-district transfer of employees.
