SBI celebrates Bank Day in Guwahati

Guwahati, July 2: The State Bank of India traces its origin from founding of the Bank of Calcutta in 1806, making it oldest commercial bank in the Indian Sub continent. Subsequently, Bank of Madras merged with other Presidency Banks in British India , Bank of Calcutta and Bank of Bombay to form Imperial Bank of India, which in turn became STATE BANK OF INDIA in 1955. As such SBI is observing  July 1 as foundation every year. This time it is remarkable for North East region that 2 (two) eminent persolities were felicitated by SBI Chairman, Arundhati Bhattacharjee in presense of other dignitaries at SBI’s Corporate Office, Mumbai. They are Deepa Karmakar from Tripura who is the first Indian Gymst qualified for the vault fil during Summer Olympic 2016 and Anshu Jamsenpa, mountaineer from Bomdila, Aruchal Pradesh who set world record in double ascent in Everest Climbing. SBI was the main sponsor towards Anshu’s world record attempt.   

Bank’s North Eastern Circle, also celebrated its foundation day known as “Bank Day” on July 1, 2017 by organizing Art competition for children,  felicitation of eminent persolities, entrepreneurs, dotions to 4 NGOs and concluded with a fasciting cultural night at Srimanta Sankardeva Intertiol Auditorium, Panjabari, Guwahati in presence of Chandra Mahon Patowary, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Transport, Industry & Commerce, Government of Assam as Chief Guest. The programme was attended by PVSLN Murty, Chief General Mager, Digmanu Gupta, O. P Mishra, General Magers, SBI North Eastern Circle along with other senior Government officials, employees with their families besides bank’s customers.

SBI’s role is exemplary, we appreciate SBI for its dedication in fincial inclusion, economic growth of the region- said Patwary in his speech congratulating SBI on its foundation day. He also urged SBI to contribute in strengthening the rural economy of the state.

SBI initiated the celebration with reciting pledge for bank employees, art competition amongst the wards of the employees in the morning at its Local Head Office, on the day. Later in the evening, a function was organised where bank felicitated 7 eminent persolities, Panchali Bhattacharjee, Tripura, Dr. Ravi Kann, Cachar Cancer Hospital, Silchar, Imchawati Kichu, galand, Jadav Payeng, Jorhat, Pabitra Rabha, Tangla,Assam, Bishnu Khargaria, Film Actor, Moran, Assam, Miss Laimwn rzary,Sports Persolity Kokrajhar along with 2 Entrepreneur Anil Mutha,  Tripura,  Abhijit Barooah, Guwahati

The felicitation was followed by a programme of dotion under CSR to 4 NGOs mely Mission Smile, Guwahati Lion’s Eye Hospital, Intertiol Vedanta Society of Guwahati and Aruchal Vikash Parishad from Itagar for procuring materials, from medical equipment to school desks,  for their respective work area for the society. The cultural night ended with fasciting performance by singer Zubilee, besides other enthralling performance by groups. This was stated in a press release.
