SBI & Department of Tourism, Assam, promotes Pobitora

Guwahati, Jan 29: Departmant of Tourism, Government of Assam in association with State Bank of India has initiated the programme of promoting Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.  It is a 1-hour drive through a road passing by River Brahmaputa, and a small portion of the village of Mayong. It has a dense population of the Great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Pobitora was declared a reserved forest in 1971 and a wildlife sanctuary in 1987.

To attract the tourists at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Govt of Assam and SBI has joined hand to launch a 2-day enthralling festival called “Pobitora Enchanted 2017”. Shri ba Kumar Doley, Hon’ble Minister, Sports , Youth Welfare, Cultural etc, Government of Assam and PVSLN Murty, Chief General Mager, SBI NE Circle has jointly iugurated this enthralling events in presence of Piyush Hazarika, MLA, Jagiroad Constituency and other dignitaries, thousands of spectators on 28th January’2017 at Pobitora. The 2- day festival showcasing the ethnic variety of Assam, beside the tradition of Mayong.

Pobitora is mainly famous for its great Indian One-horned rhinoceros. In a short speech PVSLN Murty, CGM SBI said that the people from outside NE normally desired to go to Kaziranga only, even from Guwahati city people rush to Kaziranga leaving a very beautiful Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary door near. He also added that SBI is always extending support to such activities like aforestation, promoting tourism  which also promotes the local tradition in all respects.This was stated in a press release.
