SC Development Council vice-chairman refutes allegations

BILASIPARA, Nov  24:  The Assam Government has recently constituted the Scheduled Caste Development Council and Dr Kanulal Das, a physician of Bilasipara and a renowned social worker has been included in the council as vice-chairman. Aggrieved with the constitution of the council, few persons filed a writ petition in Gauhati High Court alleging that the council had been constituted in gross violation of standing policies of the government. Citing example, the aggrieved persons said that Dr Kanulal Das was a government doctor. “This is a completely false, fabricated and baseless allegation against me,” said Dr Kanulal Das while addressing a press meet recently at Bilasipara. Dr Das said that he was a private physician and did not work for any government institution. He further said that the allegation against Nityanda Phukan, the chairman of the newly-constituted council was also false and fabricated. At one time Phukan was the ward member of Dibrugarh Municipality, not now, said Dr Das.
