SC to hear petition on Assam Accord from May 11

GUWAHATI, Feb 21: A constitution bench of the Supreme Court will hear from May 11 a continuous a petition challenging Clause VI of Assam Accord. The clause stipulates constitutiol safeguards to indigenous Assamese people to protect their identity in the backdrop of ubated infiltration of illegal migrants from Bangladesh. AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjya, who was present when the Supreme Court took up the petition today, said implementation of all clauses of the Assam Accord is the only way to solve the vexed illegal foreigners’ issue in the State.
