Scarcity of water at Bhuvan Valley Tea Estate poses threat

Correspondent
Silchar, Feb 23: There seems to be no respite from problems being faced by the residents and labourers of Bhuvan Valley Tea Estate. Of late, they have been suffering from acute shortage of potable water for the last 3 months. The water supply scheme under PHE, Didarkhush Water Supply Scheme, which was launched 8 – 10 years ago, has been non functiol for the last 3 months. The pipes are lying in a damaged condition, as a result of which people are bound to consume contamited and filthy water. Labourers are forced to use dirty, filthy and contamited water drawn from wells, ponds and even drains. This has lead to many diseases.  The residents of that area have informed the PHE department, yet no action has been taken so far. They have intimated the same to J R Lalsim, ADC Cachar and in-charge, SDO (Civil), Lakhipur as well. The ADC has assured them of a positive action after consultation with the PHE department. People residing in that area has expressed their anger and are miffed at such indifferent attitude on the part of the authorities concerned. The rise of problems related to safe drinking water has raised many eyebrows.
