Schalke appoint Tedesco as head coach

Berlin, June 10: German football club Schalke have appointed Domenico Tedesco as head coach after relieving former coach Markus Weinzierl, the “Royal Blues” confirmed in an official statement.

Tedesco put pen to paper on a two-year deal until June 2019, reports Xinhua news agency.

“We have carefully examined the whole season to lay a good foundation for the upcoming season. We came to the conclusion that we have to make a change to ensure the development we want. This also includes a change on the head coach position,” Schalke’s sporting director Christian Heidel said.

“Domenico Tedesco does not have a lot of experience but he has convinced us in our talks about how he wants to shape Schalke’s sportive future. Like many other clubs, we focus on young and innovative coaches,” Heidel said.

The 31-year-old new arrival was previously in charge at second division side Erzgebirge Aue where he helped to avoid the club’s relegation into the third division. IANS
