GUWAHATI, Oct 13: The College Students’ Welfare Committee (CSWC), a voluntary organization, is going to institute the Golap Borbora Scholarship for 2017, 2018 and 2019, to begin with.  The committee has a ten-member committee for the selection of students for receiving the scholarship on merit. The scholarship carries cash amounting to Rs 50,000 to be raised at the rate of Rs 500 from the families and friends of each of the ten members of the selection committee. The selection of candidates will be based on students’ performance in their higher secondary examitions. For the year 2017 the committee is to select two students. Talking to newsmen in the city on Friday, CSWC president Abhiv Borbora said: “Soon after becoming the Chief Minister of the State in 1978 Late Golap Borbora made education free for boys up to Class X and for girls up to Class XII. He was a chief minister who had to reside in a rented house. Since the system introduced by Late Borbora wasn’t followed by the subsequent governments in the State, we’ve decided to extent such a scholarship. We’ll try to make it a regular affair only for poor students.”
