School Chess begins at South Point school

GUWAHATI, May 1: All Assam School Chess Championship got underway at South Point School today. The tourment was iugurated by Krishnjan Chanda, the principal of South Point School in presence of Mridul Mahanta, president ,Guwahati Chess Association.  Altogether 108 players including 26 Intertiol rated players from Dibrugarh, Duliajan, Tinsukia, Jorhat  and Mangaldoi are taking part in this 4-day event. The meet, organized by the  Guwahati Chess Association, carries  prize fund of Rs 40,000 and the 9 round swiss league tourment played under classical  time control.

Apart from South Point School, Sanskriti The Gurukul, Gurukul Grammer Senior Secondary School, Delhi Public School, Royal Global School, Faculty School, Maharishi Vidyamandir, Miles Bronson residential School, Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya, Sudershan Public School, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Kendriya Vidyalaya (Khapara), Delhi Public School (Duliajan), St Mary School, Intertiol School Guwahati, Don Bosco Guwahati, Modern School, Srimanta Sankar Academy, Mangaldoi Maharishi Vidyamandir are among the participants schools. All the top seed won their respective games in the first round of the event.
