Doomdooma, July 8: In an academic review meeting convened on Wednesday at Hoonlal HS School under the presidentship of Prasad Sonowal, president of the Management and Development Committee, to review the poor performance of its students in this year’s HSLC examination, Principal Shima Chaudhury said that against as many as eight teachers engaged in NRC duty, three teachers had been deputed by the education department to teach in Baghjan-Digulturrang High School which was 14 km away from here. As a consequence, as many as 117 students had to be taught in a single classroom for want of required number of teachers, she further said.

Moreover, the introduction of the present system of re-admission of unsuccessful candidates to appear as regular candidates in place of previous option given to them to appear as private candidates, had also its adverse effect on the performance of the students, as reflected in the exam results, she opined.

The meeting was addressed by Bina Deka, former Principal, Doomdooma College, Bimal Borgohain, the district-level resource person of Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Bina Gogoi, retired Headmistress of Doomdooma Girls’ High School and other academicians.

The speakers suggested various ways and means for improvement of exam results. It was resolved to prepare a scheme and strategy after due consultation with retired teachers, parents and educationists for improvement of the performance of the students.

By another resolution, the meeting endorsed the name of Prabin Mazumdar, former Headmaster, Doomdooma Bangiya Vidyalaya, to be appointed as vice-president of the School Management and Development Committee in place of the present incumbent who expressed her inability to continue on personal grounds.
