School Kickboxing from July 20

GUWAHATI June 22: The 4th All Assam Inter School Kickboxing Championship will be held at the Soram Higher Secondary School playground here from July 20. The four-day meet, which will be jointly organized by the All Guwahati District Kickboxing Association and Kamrup District Kickboxing Association, will be concluded on July 23. Around 600 participants from 20 districts are expected to take part in the championship.

Addressing a media gathering Biswajit Kakoti, the secretary of the Assam Kickboxing Association, said, "The total budget of the championship is Rs 6.5 lakh. The events include in the meet are kick light, point fighting and light contact which will be held in four weight categories-U-19,17,14 and 9.The World Association of Kickboxing Organizations rules and regulations will be followed in this competition."

Meanwhile Assam Kick Boxing Association has appointed Arju awardee Bhogeswar Baruah as the chairman of the organizing committee of this competition. Barua was also present in the media briefing where he lambasted the state government for their lackluster attitude towards the sports in the state. "As far as sports are concerned I don't think with this government something good can happen in Assam. I try to speak out the truth and so they don't like me," said Baruah.
