School sans basic infrastructure facilities in East Siang

Itagar, Oct 23: The 100-bed Girls Residential (Upper Primary) School at Depi village under ri block in East Siang district is running without basic infrastructure and other required facilities, portraying a poor education scerio. The teaching and non-teaching staffs are forced to face unhealthy situation due to lack of housing facilities in the school premise, while the kitchen and dining hall is running in unhygienic condition. The residential school set up in an isolated location has no boundary wall or fencing for protection of the school properties and to ensure safety and security of the students. There is no water supply, electricity and power generator in the school.

Established in 2013 under SSA (Rajya Mission), the school started lately in November, 2014 with four Upper Primary Classes i.e. Class IV to VII. Currently, there are 32 students, three teachers including the headmaster, four supporting staff, a peon and chowkider in the school.  

The local people lamented that the school is running in a pathetic condition but neither the officers from education department nor the MLAs and Ministers have ever looked back at the school. They alleged that the education department has paid no heed to the appeals of the public for development infrastructure for the school.
