School student meets tragic death during marathon race

Dhemaji, Nov 26: A school student came under a truck and was killed on the spot while participating in a marathon race. Raja Konwar (15), a student of Class X of Gogamukh Higher Secondary School was crushed to death on Friday morning by a truck while participating in a marathon race which was part of the School Week programme organized by the school. The marathon race started from Bordoloni Chariali to Gogamukh Higher Secondary School. During this race, Raja Konwar felt tired and stopped running.  He wanted to ride on the truck which was arranged by the school for any emergency. But somehow he could not get his grip on the slow-moving truck and slipped and came under the rear wheels. The truck ran over him and the boy met a tragic death.

The people of the area could not take the matter easily. They blamed the school authority for their gross negligence for not providing a recue vehicle with a team of health experts. The old truck (AS 22 3734) did not stop and continued moving due to which the boy lost his grip and came under the truck, people alleged. The truck was seized by the Gogamukh Police.

AASU unit of Bordoloni and Gogamukh have condoled Raja Konwar’s demise and demanded a judicial probe.
