School students raise relief fund for flood-affected people

JORHAT, Aug 13: The Springdale High School of Jorhat recently raised flood relief fund for the people affected by the recent devastating flood that created havoc in Jorhat while responding to an appeal by Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal and handed over the collected food items, candles and phenyl worth Rs 21,000 to ADC Bubul Lekharu on Friday. The whole initiation was taken up solely by the Founder Principal and Maging Trustee Shahz Ahmed and the Principal R. Rejeesh and teachers, besides the students of the school who contributed generously for the cause. About 50,000 people of the district were affected in this year’s flood which first started with the breaching of an embankment of the river Bhogdoi at the Dhekorgorha area of Jorhat. The district administration had to call in specialized army unit of the Dao and Spear regiment based at Sibsagar to strengthen the embankment and divert the river back to its origil course with the help of geo pipes and bamboo screen.
