Schoolgirl dies after falling from bamboo bridge

Batadrava, Feb 19: In a tragic incident at Roha on Sunday noon, a nine-year old school girl died after falling from a dangerous bamboo bridge over Siuguri Beel while trying to cross it. The girl has been identified as Mamtaz Begum of Siuguri Roha and she was a Class III student. According to sources, the girl slipped from the bamboo bridge and fell into the beel and was critically injured. Local people rushed to the spot and saved the minor girl from drowning in the beel. They sent the girl immediately to gaon BPC hospital for treatment but the girl died on the way. Local people have been appealing for construction of a concrete  bridge over the beel since several years but these appeals have fallen on deaf ears.
