Scientists urged to work for greater interest of common people

JORHAT, March 18: Attending as the chief guest on the occasion of the 57th foundation day of CSIR-NEIST at the JM Baruah Auditorium in the NEIST premises on Sunday, veen Verma, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Development for North Eastern Region (DoNER), urged upon all scientists to work in accordance with the aspirations and expectations of common people. He emphasized generating need-based technologies and solutions which cater to all sections of the society, starting from the grassroots level.

Verma, sharing his experience about his visit to CSIR-NEIST, spoke about the potential of various technologies of the institute and urged upon establishing tie-ups with NEDFi, Ministry of Development for North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and various State Governments to maximize its reach to the society and deliver more. He also said that all MSME entrepreneurs of CSIR-NEIST should be attached to NEDFi for accessing its venture fund scheme and effective marketing assistance. He further informed about the support and association of the Ministry of DoNER with CSIR-NEIST for Science and Technology Intervention in the North East Region (STINER).  He stressed tapping the immense tural resources of the region for microhydro projects and developing value-added products from ginger, aromatic plants and bamboo.  He encouraged the younger generation and the budding scientists to work more closely with users of such technologies to understand their needs and problems. On the occasion, Highlights 2017-18 of CSIR-NEIST was released by the chief guest. Further, the employees who retired during March 2017 to February 2018 were felicitated with mementoes. Also, certificates of appreciation were awarded to employees for exemplary performance during 2017-18 in different categories.
