Scooty distributed in Kokrajhar to girl students of BPL families

KOKRAJHAR, May 30: The Directorate of Education, BTC, on Tuesday distributed Scooty among the girl students of BPL families at a function held at the auditorium hall of Kokrajhar Girls’ College here. The deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary, who is also the in-charge of education department, formally handed over the Scooty to the students in presence of Executive Members and other officials.

Talking to media persons after the distribution, Kampa Borgoyary said Scooty had been given to girl students from BPL families. He said, “Our target in BTC area was 100 students but after scrutiny of documents only 88 girl students have been selected to receive Scooty.” He also said the council had taken up various schemes for the students to encourage them to have qualitative higher education and as part of that, the students who get admission in IIT, IIM, MBBS and NIT are given fincial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively and Rs. 3 lakh is given to 25 students annually those are selected for pursuing UPSC coaching.

Borgoyary said most of the schools in BTC areas were venture schools and were facing acute shortage. For provincialization of these schools, the council had decided to take measures in the line of Assam Venture School Teachers’ Provincialization Act. He said a special cabinet meeting would be convened in BTC in June to bring legislation and get approval.

Director of Education, BTC, Rabi Shankar Borgoyary said BTC had taken various ambitious schemes for students and had promised to distribute Scooty. He said the council had targeted to distribute Scooty among 100 girl students in four districts of BTC but after verification only 88 students were found to be eligible. He also said the council had already distributed Scooty to 26 students in Udalguri district, 19 in Baksa district and 26 in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday. He also said the distribution would be held on June 1 in Chirang district where 17 students would receive Scooty. The distribution programme was also attended by BTC EMs-Doneswar Goyary and Rajib Brahma and IS of Kokrajhar.
