SCPCR chairperson lodges complaint against school teacher

SHILLONG, April 23: Taking a strong note on the alleged sexual harassment on several girl students of Jawahar vodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills district, the Chairperson of Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), M Kharkongor, on April 22, lodged a complaint against the teacher of the school.

As per the complaint by SCPCR, the person allegedly involved in the matter has been identified as Biswajit Jha, teacher of JNV Nongstoin (WKH).

It may be mentioned that the female student of the school had reported the matter to the Executive Magistrates during a routine inspection and based on his initial inquiry report a committee was constituted comprising of Extra Assistant Commissioner, District Social Welfare Officer and Deputy Labour commissioner, West Khasi Hills district. After the committee confirmed that there was sexual harassment, the teacher was then termited from service. The office of the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills District had recommended the JNV Samiti Shillong to lodge an FIR against the teacher under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO), 2012.
