SHILLONG, April 19: Pyniaid Sing Syiem, MDC, Sohryngkham Constituency, has submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills district, Peter S. Dkhar, demanding scrapping of any agreement to hand over land to the Border Security Force (BSF) at Puriang village, located in East Khasi Hills district.
In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the MDC from Sohryngkham Constituency said, “In the me of the people Puriang village, I urge you (DC) to immediately scrap any land deal agreement in relation to the handing over of land to the BSF at Puriang village.”
Syiem informed that people of the region in a meeting held on April 17 had taken a resolution to oppose transfer of land to any defence administrations.
The Sohryngkham Constituency MDC had also submitted the mes of around 400 people who had attended the meeting in opposing the handing over of land to the BSF at Puriang village.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner had assured the MDC Pyniaid Syiem to take up the demand voiced by the people seriously.
In this connection, the village dorbar of Puriang, Hima Khyrim had constituted a special committee, chaired by the Sordar of Puriang village. The Sordar informed that the public meeting held on April 12, had intensively discuss on the issue and had decided to put on hold the issuing of No Objection Certificate (NoC) to Pynjai Lyngdoh, (Owner of the land) who is intending to sell his land to the BSF.
In a statement signed by P. Kharsati, General Secretary of Puriang village dorbar, informed that the Sordar of Puriang dorbar has announced that issuing of NOC in selling of private land to the BSF at Puriang village has been put on hold since April 12 this year.
