Scribes stage protest, condemn attack on colleague

Bokajan, September 7: Members of Bokajan Press Club and Bokajan Sub-Divisiol Jourlist Association staged a sit-in adjacent to the SDO(C) office here on Monday to condemn the continuous attack on media persons and to demand protection in their work environment. The demonstration was also supported by various student organization including AASU, AJYCP, KSA, AISA, KMSS who jointly decried the recent attack on a jourlist, And Terang, while he was on work accumulating photo evidences of illegal tax default tyres being offloaded in front of a motor part store in Sukjanjan. The owner Santosh Jain with two other persons, Bijay Singh and Umesh Gupta, allegedly stched his camera and mobile phone, thereby erasing all photo evidences. The trio even allegedly assaulted Terang physically.  Terang was rescued by a prominent social worker. Terang later filed a case with the Bokajan Police but the later allegedly protected Jain and the other two persons by registering a case levying extortion charges on Terang, thereby forcing him to compromise. The jourlists submitted a memorandum to the SDO(C) and the latter assured to identify and book the perpetrators of the attack who targeted press freedom. Meanwhile, an urgent meeting of all media persons was held to discuss the growing threats to the media fraternity. The meeting also decided to submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police on Tuesday demanding adequate security for scribes.
