GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), Oct 14:  The delegation of various student organizations and jourlists of Golaghat staged a sit-in near the Deputy Commissioner’s office protesting against the attack on a jourlist and slammed the role of the OC of Golaghat Police station on Saturday.
In the protest, the protesters claimed that the Golaghat Police had failed to control law and order in the district. Since the last two years the evil activities of mafia had increased in Golaghat. An unholy nexus between the OC of Golaghat Police station and mafia of Golaghat was alleged. The mutual relationship among the police and public had decreased, said a senior jourlist.
On October 9, at night unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked an electronic media jourlist of a private TV channel med Iunush Ali, resident of Santipur of Golaghat town under Golaghat police station, while he was returning home from Thuramukh area. The miscreants threatened to shoot him also. The victim identified one person among the trio as Surjya Saikia and later a FIR was lodged in Golaghat Police station. But the OC of Golaghat police station, despite immediately arrest of the accused person, allegedly misbehaved with victim.
Organizations like AASU, AJYCP, AAMSU, SMSS, BAYM, ATTSA and ATASU and jourlists staged the protest and demanded transfer of the OC from Golaghat. In this regard, a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister.
